The river of life is muddy indeed. In this story, the reporter says people in China are getting a ‘very different view’ of this OlympicxTibet bandwagon hopping. Some nice imagery in the background serves up their point:

Notice how China’s all smoky and has grinding metal sounds in the background? But no matter. China might actually just look like that (no sarcasm here).

If you read on, you see they’ve done their work talking about Chinese media coverage of the incident here. At one point, Eunice (the Chinese woman) says ‘there hasn’t been a lot of discussion on why the protesters are acting out so aggressively’, no mention of ‘China’s human rights records’, etc.

And the reporter asks: ‘Have the controversial events prompted self reflection among the Chinese people?’

Translated: ‘Can this event possibly shock the Chinese people out of their propaganda induced stupor to realize the shocking truth that China’s government sucks and is trying to mislead them?’

Eunice then says, ‘We’ve been checking the blogs, definitely there is some anger being passed around, which doesn’t come across as too surprising given that the television coverage.. paper… has been heavily slanted towards the government’s policy… there are a lot of people questioning the protesters… but not really questioning, again, just why these events have sprung up in the first place…’

Translated: ‘Well the media here’s all slanted, and the Chinese are so retarded they can’t even question their own government, so… yeah, not much going on here.’

Heavy paraphrasing there, but really, if you ask an English major, it’s still the same point. It’s very interesting how a Chinese (?, Yoon is a Korean surname, but she sure looks Chinese) woman is actually questioning the intelligence of her own countrymen. Very interesting indeed. If she’s any indication, we Chinese are all as intelligent as pigs.
