On Nehalem (Core i7)

Anandtech caught some pictures at the Intel Developer’s Forum ‘08.

Yes, that is a lot of RAM. 144GB of DDR3 in triple channel, to be exact. Apparently each and every one of those are Micron 8GB DDR3 DIMMs. Just for your reference, a 2GB Kingston DDR3-1333 module costs RM338 in the shop I work in. Crazy shit. Intel says DDR3 is now ‘affordable’. Yeah, right.

Each Nehalem is quad core, but because of HyperThreading’s return (known to the educated as Simultaneous Multi-Threading), you see 16 overall. Apparently it’s rendering something, but the CPU usage seems to be a bit low for rendering, don’t you think?

But here’s the thing. Intel has just got some working samples of Nehalem-EX, the 8-core Nehalem, and ASUS’s X58 board looks like the Maximus II (a good thing). All in all, I’m hyped about Nehalem, and will buy it as soon as I have the financial ability to do so. As for the RAM, though…. sigh.

HW these days gets better and better. ASUS Maximus II is good board. Am planning to buy one. Building another PC, now, a gaming rig. :D

oh yeah, have you seen the upcoming Antec Skeleton barebone? Wow… fancy. XD

Actually I didn’t like the Skeleton that much. Really, if I have a roommate, all he has to do is pour water on it and it’ll be all over. If it’s just me and one window, just rain will be enough to stop me from screwing around with Sakura (Sakura Taisen).

The new Shuttle X27 might just do it, though… if only it had space for a graphic card.
