Computers and Summertime
As you might have guessed, they aren’t the best of friends. Bored to bits with the 20kb/s download of KAA’s Seikai no Monshou, I fired up my Octane and went to #kickassanime on irc.rizon.net with the aim of downloading the episodes that utorrent had least finished.
My Octane is butt slow. 300MHz MIPS R12000 slow, to be exact. It wasn’t that slow when released, but when Seamonkey takes up 100% of the CPU to render a webpage and my download speed suffers because it’s too busy rendering the webpage to do basic TCP housekeeping, it’s time to seriously reconsider getting a faster machine or perhaps even a second processor.
Now I have the IBM 9114-275 in my possession, and it’s pretty damn fast, but there’s a problem with it: it cranks up the 4 fans really loudly, so loud that I can turn up the volume on my 2.1 speakers and still barely hear the music/anime. So I never turn it on, and lord forbid that I plug in the second power supply, it gets even louder.
My laptop, on the other hand, isn’t faring any better. It’s really worrying how the palmrest seems to be about double my body temperature.
Truly, the only good thing about summertime is that women take off most of their clothes. Otherwise, it just sucks. There are so many more flies around now that summer’s here, and I spend too much time lying in bed trying not to sweat to care.
No complaints about how the heat makes the air almost nonusable?
That´s my biggest concern, I can´t freaking sleep when it is this hot!!
Depending on your computer it can be nice and cool. My comp is pretty silent even though I have 3 fans going. Viva la Antec.

Well, at night the air is useful because it’s cooler. i have no troubles sleeping in this weather, actually, since I do come from Malaysia.
Yeah, you probably have 3 fans blowing directly on something. The 9114-275 has 3 fans in one assembly cooling a lot of components at once, no fan directly mounted on top of any heatsink.
The last one is so true, the skin on those fatties tend to be spotted (shudder! why did I remember that) and sometimes repulsively white. Like mousse? Yeah. Fortunately most girls in Oldenburg look good. 70%. No, make that 60….
