Franz Liszt - Totentanz
Krystian Zimerman - Piano; Seiji Ozawa - Boston Symphonie Orchestra
208kbps Ogg Vorbis (SSE3MTLancer)

If the last one didn't score high on the music tastes chart, this one will. Plus, Krystian Zimerman rips through this song like a katana through flesh jelly. And everybody knows Totentanz. Right?

Upon finding that ef - the first tale and the latter tale actually have Chinese patches, the Unlimited Download Works in ritchan’s brain immediately sprung to life. Information gathering became top priority, and second was firing up eMule. Way down at the bottom of the priority list is making sure I have enough free space.

Thanks to 2djgame, I found that the group responsible for the first tale’s patch is 星炮组, which, Google says, has a website at galstars.info. The first tale translation seems like a one man job… I’m just dying to see just how natural his translation is, since the only screenshot of his patch is a really small image on the download page. Unfortunately for me, ef - the first tale is a 3.9GB DVD ISO.

And it seems that the latter tale is just as large. Fortunately I still have a few DVD+Rs to go around, although I’d only rather burn nnl’s fully translated version to DVD (if it exists).

To download the first tale’s Chinese patch, go to galstars.info and click ‘Download’… and choose the ef - first tale. Find a 15 digit number for mofile (8118109795312095), then go to pickup.mofile.com and paste it in one of the text boxes there. There’s also a version 2 patch you can download from his site.

  1. ef, a very good game just like wind by minori. :)

  2. NO WAY DUDE wind sucked BALLS. ef is INCREDIBLE. wind DOES NOT COMPARE.

  3. hahaha.. thought so… you really HATE wind - a breath of tits - do you… hehehe… :D

  4. We consulted the team that did the Chinese translation of ef - the first tale. They would not share their tools with us, leaving us with no possibility around minori’s copy protection scheme.

According to someone, the translation isn’t too bad, although there are some errors where Japanese kanji and Chinese kanji differ, like toilet paper and letter.

As for our ef - the first tale project, we canceled it a while ago. If you would like to help resurrect it, you know where to contact us.

    Take care,

  5. GipFace, nice work on Wind.

I wish you reconsider on doing the english trans for ef 1st and last tales… hehehe… :D

    dang it, Mizuki Hayama settled with an old guy? arrrr….. Kuze’s a pedophile… hehehe… oh well… :(

  6. Thank you for your kind comment.

We would love to continue ef, especially since the latter tale is currently the top eroge of 2008 (90% on EGS), but real life has taken its toll. Sean Inoue, my friend and primary translator, is too busy with work. I could try my hand at it, but I’d rather focus on getting my JLPT1 and achieving fluency. Therefore, without a translator, the project is dead.

Wind -a breath of heart- happened because we put out a demo, and Seung Park was impressed enough at our effort that he translated the remainder of the game. Who knows? Maybe someone else will do the same for ef.

  7. Ah, I get it, rollchan, going for the ‘flood naysayer with spoilers to ruin his favourite novel’, eh? It DOESN’T WORK, my LOVE for ef goes WAY DEEEEEPER than that. Plus it’s not like I care that much about the plot in there… if there’s something I really want to erase from the world, it’s spoilers for Ever17.
And yeah, I appreciated the effort that went into the wind patch. Not many people who know how to spell are left in this world you know. Even Hirameki made tons of onomatopoeic errors.

But on bigger and better things… glad to know you guys are still interested in translating ef. I myself have learned Japanese up until the Kanji part… but that was 4 years ago and I need the grammar police. I’m definitely taking up Japanese again, and if nobody shows up and starts translating for you in something like 3-5 years, you can bet I’ll remember this project and start bugging you guys.

  8. count on ritchan for that. :)
