Okay, yeah, so I'm back on Vista. Sue me, please. Don't play with XP keygens without a sandbox.

Franz Liszt - Totentanz
Krystian Zimerman - Piano; Seiji Ozawa - Boston Symphonie Orchestra

If the last one didn't score high on the music tastes chart, this one will. Plus, Krystian Zimerman rips through this song like a katana through flesh jelly. And everybody knows Totentanz. Right?

Yes, what a random topic, isn’t it? Blame rollchan, who defaced my in-depth Byousoku 5cm review! You’ll pay for this…

So he lined up 4 cases: the Thermaltake Armor+, LanBox, Coolermaster Cosmos S, and Antec 900. All of these seem like decent cases for highend computers except for the LanBox, so it seems he’s confused as to what to buy.

If you want a high end PC, somewhere around or above the Mac Pro, get the big cases.
Reason: when you want two sockets, 8 CPUs, 16GBs of FB-DIMM RAM, 6 hard drives and 2 burners, things are going to get real hot in there.

Choosing between the big cases: well, you simply choose whichever one suits your aesthetic taste. That’s how I’d go around buying those cases if I were to build a monster computer. Oh sure, no screws, being made of aluminium, whatever whatever, those are nice, but they’re not really necessary. Oh, and if they don’t come with a power supply, get a Tagan power supply. I know the Cosmos S does, but the last Coolermaster PSU I bought said ‘quiet’ and really wasn’t.

If you want a normal PC - two/four cores, up to 4GBs of RAM, a single fast/midrange graphics card, get the SFF LanBox:
The great thing about technology nowadays is that you can cram so much into a little box. Lots of people I know have Core 2 Duos and X1900XTs and stuff… but how many have their computers crammed into a small case and still have room for two hard drives (wait, the LanBox supports 3!? damn) and are light enough to bring anywhere? Plus do you ever use all the hard drive/5.25″ bays in your normal beige ATX case? No.

So yeah, if you don’t want to bring the PC around, though, just get a normal ATX case. If you’re lugging it around, get something small. If you want a whopper of a bragger, get a huge one. There’s really not much to say, seriously. Cases aren’t that important - just make sure the power supply is a good one.

  1. Hmmm… guess, I’ll go for the TT LanBox. You have a point on what you’ve said on this post.

    Thanks very much, ritchan. :)

  2. I got a Chieftec Dragon Big Tower Case, if it had been a litte wider my graphics card wouldn´t have taken a HDD space away from me.

But it´s great, I have 4 HDDs, graphicscard, DVD and a lot of room to spare.

And no fans, the comp doesn´t get hot anyway. Not much in my opinion.

If you´re going to bring the computer around much, get a laptop :p

Have you heard of “Fractal” when it comes to computer cases?

  3. Holy CRAP HB that is a tall case.
And no, never heard of Fractal. What Google search should I do?

  4. Yup, that is a tall case :) It´s what I wanted at the time. Lots of loading space for HDDs and so. But still my graphics card is to wide so it takes away one space for a HDD :(

    here is the case:
